Chestnut Hill Philadelphia Wedding / Cake Cafe / Frederike & David

My old stomping grounds

I was delighted when Frederike & David reached out to me just a few short weeks ago about photographing their Chestnut Hill ‘micro-wedding’ at Cake Restaurant & Cafe.  Having spent my 20’s building a life and meeting my own husband in Chestnut Hill,  the area holds a special place in my heart.  What a treat it was for me to plan out the spots for photos: the first look, family formals and couple’s shots.

Small but beautiful

Although this was a ‘small’ wedding, I know how much planning went into it for Friederike & David.  Having been engaged in February, they only had a few short months to pull things together before their move across the country to LA, just a few short days after the wedding.  They are also planning another wedding in Germany, Friederike’s homeland, so that her side of the family could have their chance to celebrate the bride & groom.

How the day went down

Since we did not do bridal prep coverage, the day started out in one of my very favorite spots in Chestnut Hill; the ‘secret’ garden on the corner of Germantown Avenue and Hartwell Lane where the groom and best man successfully navigated the pinning on of the boutonnieres.  After their sweet first look across from the garden at Buckley Park, we walked around for 5 minutes of couple’s shots (dodging some light rain), then off to Pastorious Park where we met up with a bunch of smiling family faces.

Cake at it’s best

Afterwards, we all left for Cake where guests were greeted by a lovely string quartet and festive cocktails.  Not soon after, the short and sweet ceremony was performed under soft natural light from the greenhouse ceiling, followed by a petal-throwing exit: my absolute favorite.

The rest of the evening was spent on mingling, toasts, laughter and lots of love.  We did the cake cutting in front of Cake’s famous ‘cake & dessert’ oil painting.  I was in heaven.

More to come!

Friederike & David, thank you for being so easygoing and wonderful to work with and for trusting me to capture this absolutely lovely occasion.  I look forward to sharing the full set with you soon, lots more great shots to come!
